Vermont fly fishing for trophy Trout on East Creek in Rutland, the Walloomsac river in Bennington and the Black River in Ludow is really good. Rainbow Trout 15 to 22" are spread throughout the trophy areas. Daily Vermont flyfishing guided trips start at 9am. This spring has been dry and the water levels have been perfect. Hatches are well under way in most of my target areas. Currently, I have a bunch of prime May dates open: May 14,15, 16, 22, 23, 27, and 30. So, if you want to fish with me…CALL 1 (800) 682-0103. Last year, we did very well for trophy trout on dryflies in mid-May. I am confident we will see rising Brown Trout again on the Black river this year. Vermont hatches in May include: Hendricksons, Rusty Spinners, Yellow Sally Stoneflies, March Browns, Early Black Stones and Caddis. Hot flies: McCheese egg, Cherise egg, Tunsten hares ear trailed by a hendrickson nymph, soft hackles and hatching pupa. For Dry Flies: Ausable Wulff dry size 14, Hendrickson Usual, and Gray Adams size 16. Streamers: BH White Flashy, BH Brown/Copper Flashy, Shushan Postmaster and Black Nose Dace.
