HUSBAND and WIFE TRIP
After a casting lesson the day before this was this couples first day fly fishing for Trout...it was a fun day!
Simple Leaders
As most of you regulars know:) I am a certified knot, tippet and leader natzi....I've posted my leader formula on here a couple times...use the search tool on the right side bars to find it....but I have come up with a new simple recipe which works just fine for nymph fishing and most situations. The 20 and 15 lb test is trilene big game clear mono...the 10lb is ande clear....then I use actual tippet material for the 2 and 4X
(although you could use ande 8 and 6 lb)....Here are the recipes: 9' 4X= 20lb / 36"...15lb / 24"...10lb / 12"....2X / 8"...4X / 28" (tippet)
And for small mountain stream with little short rods a 7' 4X = 20lb / 24"....15lb / 16"...10lb / 12"...2X / 8"....4X / 24"
The high tech places like the Battenkill or in low water small flies in the flats....I will use the old formula and add butt section (the 20lb) section to grow it to 12 or 14 feet....Thanks for the view and be careful out there... the rocks are getting slippery!
June 2015
The Trout fishing so far has been EXCELLENT...the trophy areas still are producing. I have moved off the Black River for the season. The bite on the Black is a half day early morning deal and logistically it doesn't make sense for me with Otter Creek, East Creek and the Walloomsac fishing so well....Sorry for the lack of posts recently...it has been crazy busy and I'm finally catching my breath. Bugs: Sulfurs, Rusty Spinners and caddis...best flies: Kashner Caddis Pupa is still top trailer fly behind a bead head nymph. March Brown nymphs, lt. cahill wetflies and small copper johns round out top 5 fly choices. Spinners falls happen 7:30 pm till dark for those of you dryfly guys. Summer season is about to begin and there are plenty of prime dates still open! Thanks for the view
