Vermont Trout Fishing

Overall the fishing is pretty good for most people. I think I am done now on the Black river in Ludlow....its bottom is getting pretty green and it is SLIPPERY. East Creek in Rutland is another target I am thinking about moving away from....those fish are BEAT UP!!!.... The Battenkill, Walloomsac, Otter Creek and Mettawee are my main targets now....the little mountain brooks are going good too. Caddis emergers and pupa have also been getting the string tight for people....thanks for following. GOOD LUCK! Now for Trophy fish porn from the week!
This Brown Trout ate a size 14 Rusty Spinner right in the middle of the day!

Vermont fly fishing for trophy Trout on East Creek in Rutland, the Walloomsac river in Bennington and the Black River in Ludow is really good. Rainbow Trout 15 to 22" are spread throughout the trophy areas. Daily Vermont flyfishing guided trips start at 9am. This spring has been dry and the water levels have been perfect. Hatches are well under way in most of my target areas. Currently, I have a bunch of prime May dates open: May 14,15, 16, 22, 23, 27, and 30. So, if you want to fish with me…CALL 1 (800) 682-0103. Last year, we did very well for trophy trout on dryflies in mid-May. I am confident we will see rising Brown Trout again on the Black river this year. Vermont hatches in May include: Hendricksons, Rusty Spinners, Yellow Sally Stoneflies, March Browns, Early Black Stones and Caddis. Hot flies: McCheese egg, Cherise egg, Tunsten hares ear trailed by a hendrickson nymph, soft hackles and hatching pupa. For Dry Flies: Ausable Wulff dry size 14, Hendrickson Usual, and Gray Adams size 16. Streamers: BH White Flashy, BH Brown/Copper Flashy, Shushan Postmaster and Black Nose Dace.

Vermont fly fishing for trophy Trout

This week East Creek and Otter Creek were stocked with trophy trout(14 to 22"). Each of these rivers can fish well into the end of June. My Vermont Fly Fishing Guide Service will be touring these rivers throughout this period. The best fly pattern on Otter the last couple years are a size 6 BH White flashy fly. We catch most of our fish on Otter Creek stripping streamers. Otter Creek gets stocked with Rainbows and Brown Trout and has a nice mix of WILD BROOK TROUT. East Creek is normally a nymphing game. Having alot of riffles, East Creek has been a great target over the last five years. Just like in the Black River.....Rainbows like breakfast all day so feed them glo bug eggs.

VERMONT TROUT FISHING

Vermont Trout Season opens April 9, 2016. There are open year around areas on the trophy sections of East and Otter Creeks, Black and Walloomsac Rivers. I am not guiding this pre opening day stuff but am actively booking prime dates for end of April throughout the rest of the season. Day and night this time of the year, I am easy to reach at 1-800-682-0103.
Need flies???? I can help you with that too. I have a large inventory on hand looking for new "forever homes". Or if its a secret fly I am happy to do custom orders. I moved early last fall to the village of West Pawlet and now have the Indian River right in my backyard. During the low water period in September this house pool had 16 wild Rainbows and Browns...LIFE IS GOOD!
I hope to hear from you and thanks for the view!
